Erasing the Pain of the Past

March 21st, 2007

A drug that can help erase memories? The article outlines how it would be used to treat post traumatic stresss disorder but one wonders if more nefarious methods would be implemented if a drug was capable of achieving such outcomes.

The hope is that a post-traumatic stress disorder patient can work with a psychiatrist and focus a traumatic event, take one of these drugs and then slowly forget that event. With that hope, however, comes a series of ethical concerns. What makes up our personalities — the essence of who we are as individuals — if not the collected memories of our experiences?

Deconstructing The Dead

March 21st, 2007

History is not just one damn thing after another, it is also the same damn thing over and over–time’s arrow and time’s cycle. Fads come and go, in clothing, cars, and psychics. In the 1970s it was Uri Geller, in the 1980s it was Shirley MacLaine, in the 1990s it was James Van Praagh, and to kick off the new millennium it is John Edward. Edward’s star is rising rapidly with a hit daily television series “Crossing Over” on the Sci Fi network and a New York Times best selling book “One Last Time.” He has appeared, unopposed, on Larry King Live and has been featured on Dateline, Entertainment Tonight, and an HBO special. He is so hot that his television show is about to make the jump to network television, as he is soon to go opposite Oprah in CBS’s afternoon lineup.

7 Helpful Tips To Immediately Increase Your Confidence

March 21st, 2007

And who doesn’t need a bit of a boost in confidence every now and again ?

Ask yourself, “What’s the worst that could happen?” Too often, we place excess importance on potential problems. We all have a certain amount of energy so let’s apply it to creating extraordinary relationships, advancing our careers and meeting our goals INSTEAD of wasting that energy worrying. Take action on what you have control over and minimize risks for what you don’t. Then invest your energy wisely.

Religion for the Hell of It

March 20th, 2007

From Robert Anton Wilson , An essay entitled “Religion for the Hell of It” .

Have you ever considered the possibility that God might be a crazy woman? Or that John Dillinger died for you? Do you think there might be a secret technique by which the Enlightened can literally get Something for Nothing? Could the Martians have the true religion while Earthians are lost in superstitious darkness? Can a cup of coffee be a sacrament, and if not, why not? Does the mathematics of six-dimensional space-time and philosophy of Multi-Ego Pantheistic Solipsism explain the universe?

If none of these metaphysical questions have crossed your mind before, this is because Ireland has, as everybody knows, the One True Religion; but over the sea in America, where they started out with at least a dozen True Religions before the Revolution and then wrote absolute religious freedom into their Constitution, they now have literally hundreds of True Religions, and have explored every possible or thinkable theological doctrine, including all of the alternatives mentioned above. With typical American exuberance, they will no doubt be exploring the impossible and unthinkable in the near future, since their politics already contain those elements.

Discussing Transpersonal Art with Alex Grey

March 20th, 2007

Nice interview with artist Alex Grey.

Well, my work is primarily examining the nature of consciousness, and it uses various mediums to explore that question. The work’s main subject is the question of human identity and life, so I examine the human body on the physical level and interlace the subtle energies and systems of understanding from both eastern and western occult mystical traditions. I take a multicultural perspective because I want to get as many truths as I can into the vision of what a human being is.
