From the roots of old school thrash metal, this misinterpreted musical genre of metal music is know as Black Metal. Black Metal has been an outlet to disillusioned youth seeking for a way out of internal conflicts with personal, religious or cultures differences.. This little scene has become the mark of National Socialism and have devoted acts such as church burnings and homicide (number is as high as 50 or more churches).
Black Metal Beliefs
The most popular Black Metal group is Mayhem and VargVikernes. Vikernes was convicted of the murder to Øystein Aarseth an owner of the label Deathlike Silence in 93. Impacting as it may have been, the anti-religious and Nazi views of Vikernes should not be broken as an expression of the thoughts of the musical genre as a whole. As with any culture or sub-culture, you find in black metal disputes in opinion and beliefs.
Variants in Black Metal Music
Pioneered primarily by group such as Bathory and Cruachan, Viking lore and mythology has had a big impact on the black metal scene. These so called “folk” and “viking” metal bands often use instruments that leave from the typical norms and opt instead to use more traditional folk instruments to compliment the common electric guitar, drums, and bass. Black Metal variants include bands with an ambient, symphonic and doom metal sound have been experimented. Groups have pushed with other music like old 80′s punk movement (crust) gothic and even industrial influences.
The Black Metal Impression
Black metal will proceed to develop as long as there are fans and a world to express themselves, for the band and for the fans. Glamorized or demonized black metal has had a lasting impression on the metal genre for indivdualism. It’s past rooted in bands such as Venom and Celtic Frost to it’s present and future being involved along by bands ever experimenting and shocking, black metal lives!
