Free Computer Virus Finds Willing Victims

One Born every minute….

Hundreds of people have clicked on an online advertisement to download a free computer virus that said, “Is your PC virus-free? Get it infected here”.

Data security firm F-Secure says 409 people clicked on computer specialist Didier Stevens ad during a six-month campaign on Googles Adword.

“Some of them must have clicked on it by mistake,” F-Secure spokesman Mikky Hypponen said.

“Some must have been curious or stupid.”

Mr Stevens says there was no virus involved and the campaign was an experiment aiming to show such advertising systems can be used for malicious intent.

Memorise these tips for next time your asked to walk the line.

These tests are optional, and you have every right to deny the officer’s request; but they present a perfect opportunity to prove your sobriety. James Randi Owes Me a Million Dollars

Ive long been an admirer of the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF), tireless advocates for critical thinking, skepticism, and the scientific method. They offer a one million dollar prize to the first person who can provide convincing, testable proof of supernatural powers. The foundation recently set up a “remote viewing” challenge in which the purported psychic is asked to describe the contents of a special sealed box held at the JREF office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Those who know me may be surprised to read this, but I’m pleased to announce that Jutta Degener and I have successfully visualized the contents of Randi’s challenge box. We accomplished this from over a thousand miles away and entirely through mental concentration and the application of our unique talents (or, I should say, gifts), and without any physical access or inside information. We can now reveal to the world the item in the box: a small mirrored flat circular wheel or disk, such as a DVD or CD. Randi, if you’re reading this, a money order or certified check will be fine.

How to Become a Hacker

Very informative article for those interested.

The hacker mind-set is not confined to this software-hacker culture. There are people who apply the hacker attitude to other things, like electronics or music — actually, you can find it at the highest levels of any science or art. Software hackers recognize these kindred spirits elsewhere and may call them ‘hackers’ too — and some claim that the hacker nature is really independent of the particular medium the hacker works in. But in the rest of this document we will focus on the skills and attitudes of software hackers, and the traditions of the shared culture that originated the term ‘hacker’.

There is another group of people who loudly call themselves hackers, but arent. These are people mainly adolescent males who get a kick out of breaking into computers and phreaking the phone system. Real hackers call these people ‘crackers’ and want nothing to do with them. Real hackers mostly think crackers are lazy, irresponsible, and not very bright, and object that being able to break security doesnt make you a hacker any more than being able to hotwire cars makes you an automotive engineer. Unfortunately, many journalists and writers have been fooled into using the word ‘hacker’ to describe crackers; this irritates real hackers no end.

The basic difference is this: hackers build things, crackers break them.

Automated Prayer Project v1.0

Brought to you by the folks from the cult of the dead cow.

They do provide the source code to allow you to set one of these up yourself but i think i would go for something other than the rosary.

For a long time I have been interested in the intersection between science and religion, or more precisely, the interplay between faith and logic. Computers are realizations of theoretical machines which obey strictly defined rules which can be individually examined, whereas organized religion is a manifestation of a culture’s believes and hopes and basic theological questions. Whereas computers can easily be constructed/instructed to determine the unknown through a series of procedures, such determining the nth digit of e, the logical tools upon which they are constructed struggle to satisfactorily answer questions for the general population regarding the nature of the universe’s formation or what lies beyond this life.

Top 10 Most Common Passwords

Give these a shot next time you need to guess a password , but two of them wont be any good if your living outside the UK . Or if your user has a bit of common sense.

Life these days has become largely dependent on passwords – whether we’re checking our emails, transferring funds or shopping online, passwords have their part to play. We’re constantly bombarded with horror stories of security breaches, fraud, and phishing sites. Users are consistently told that a strong password is essential these days to protect private data. Why is it, then, that users on websites opt for the same, consistent, insecure passwords time after time?
