James Randi Exposes Uri Geller and Peter Popoff

James Randi is a leader in the skeptical community who has been debunking paranormal and supernatural claims for most of his life. A magician himself James Randi is excellent at exposing the frauds that make up the paranormal and psychic communities. He offers a one million prize to anyone who can prove a paranormal claim scientifically and to this day nobody has won the money. Sylvia Browne has been ducking him for quite some time.

@RyanInLA ‘ It is unethical to lie to people about the very fabric of reality. There is no comparison to plastic surgery. Uri Geller is claiming the universe works in a way it does not. He is telling people they can control things with there mind. Police get tied up in blind leads because of people like Sylvia and Uri lying about things like remote viewing. Sylvia told a family their son was dead and they stopped searching for him. Then they reunited with him years later.

  17. RyanInLA says:

… as for Randi, I’m not sure what he’s trying to prove. Like I say, it’s like exposing Santa Claus as a lie. I have to question his logic.
… as for Uri, he should’ve never walked onstage when he knew his act had been sabotaged. Guess he needed a better manager.

  18. RyanInLA says:

@whaddyta A computer with a virus is not an appropriate metaphor for a stage show that employs deception. Much of what’s presented on television is a lie. Does Johnny also point out his guests’ make-up and plastic surgery? It’s the same type of “lying.” Johnny’s role is like a circus ringmaster, but on that night (for some reason), he decided to do an expose. I say Johnny was off base.

  19. whaddyta says:

If I sell a computer with a virus I can’t use that excuse, “they should have known more about computers.” It is not the fault of the audience that a person is lying to them. Just because there is not a written stipulation doesn’t mean it is ethical.

    PWND BY JOHNNY! WIN

  21. RyanInLA says:

@conanfan33 I think psychics are a brand of entertainer who tap into the audience’s curiosity/belief in the supernatural. One may argue that Sylvia Browne is unethical because she gives hope to relatives of the deceased. But the fallacy is on the part of the audience, not the performer. There is no stipulation that a magician has to admit to their trickery. Uri was doing an act, and it’s Johnny’s job to provide a platform for that act. So I disagree with most of the comments here.
