The almighty Terence McKenna relates his experiance with and passion for DMT.
When Moses received the Ten Commandments from God, he was summoned right to the top of Mount Sinai.
But the man who led the Children of Israel to safety may have been even higher at the time, if an Israeli academic is to be believed.
Psychology professor Benny Shanon says it was likely Moses was hallucinating under the influence of a mind-altering drug at the time of his biblical achievements.

I will never forget what it was like. The overwhelming misery. The certainty of never-ending suffering. No one to help you, no way to escape. Everywhere I looked: darkness so thick that the idea of light seemed inconceivable.
Suddenly, I swirled down a tunnel of fire, wailing figures calling out to me in agony, begging me to save them. Others tried to terrorize me. “You will never leave here,” they said. “Never. Never.”
I found myself laughing at them. “Im not scared of you,” I said. But the darkness became even thicker; the emotional charge of suffering nearly unbearable. I felt as if I would burst from heartbreak—everywhere, I felt the agony of humankind, its tragedies, its hatreds, its sorrows. I reached the bottom of the tunnel and saw three thrones in a black chamber. Three shadowy figures sat in the chairs; in the middle was what I took to be the devil himself.
“The darkness will never end,” he said. “It will never end. You can never escape this place.”
“I can,” I replied.
All at once, I willed myself to rise. I sailed up through the tunnel of fire, higher and higher until I broke through to a white light. All darkness immediately vanished. My body felt light, at peace. I floated among a beautiful spread of colors and patterns. Slowly my ayahuasca vision faded. I returned to my body, to where I lay in the hut, insects calling from the jungle.
“Welcome back,” the shaman said.
Researcher and author Graham Hancock presented his thesis that “supernatural” entities such as aliens and fairies are actually transdimensional beings that humans encounter during altered states of consciousness. The ability to shape-shift has been ascribed to both modern aliens as well as elves and other entities reported centuries ago, he detailed.
Around 35,000 to 40,000 years ago humans underwent a sudden change, and the emergence of cave and rock paintings are evidence of this, said Hancock, who noted that some of their depictions were of part human/part animal beings. He believes these represent the supernatural entities, and through altered states (probably due to ingesting psilocybin mushrooms) humans learned advanced skills from their encounters with these beings.
Nowadays, shamans commonly have such altered state communications. They feel humanity is at a crossroads– the West has lost contact with the spirit world, and many of the world’s woes are due to this, Hancock reported. As part of his experiential research, he traveled to South America and took the psychedelic plant mixture ayahuasca. During one such episode, he described a confrontation with an alien being, but rather than being an extraterrestrial, he suggested it inhabits another dimension that can only be accessed during an altered state.
I couldn’t make it to Burning Man that year, but my good friend Marc was going so I gave him a large vial of DMT (dimethyltryptamine) and a microcassette recorder with instructions to administer it to the people he was with and to record audio of the whole experience. For those not familiar with DMT, I will describe it to you like this: It feels remarkably like jumping out of an airplane… in reverse. It is the most intense psychedelic experience I have ever had but unlike LSD or psilocybin it only lasts for about 10 minutes and unlike cocaine or alcohol I don’t think anyone could get addicted to this stuff. Individual observations vary but it is generally described as an out of body experience or a temporary departure from the reality known as the 3rd dimension.
The following are the microcassette tapes that Marc returned with after a week of tripping in the Nevada desert. Although one tape randomly seemed to contain an old interview with the keyboard player of the band U2, good job Marc.
Great transcript of a speach given by Terence McKenna in 1983 that also apparantly appears in his book “The Archaic Revival”.
Very interesting stuff , here is the opening paragraph :
There is a very circumscribed place in organic nature that has, I think, important implications for students of human nature. I refer to the tryptophan-derived hallucinogens dimethyltryptamine (DMT), psilocybin, and a hybrid drug that is in aboriginal use in the rain forests of South America, ayahuasca. This latter is a combination of dimethyltryptamine and a monoamine oxidase inhibitor that is taken orally. It seems appropriate to talk about these drugs when we discuss the nature of consciousness; it is also appropriate when we discuss quantum physics.
I especially enjoy his thoughts on DMT fear :
One of the interesting characteristics of DMT is that it sometimes inspires fear – this marks the experience as existentially authentic. One of the interesting approaches to evaluating such a compound is to see how eager people are to do it a second time. A touch of terror gives the stamp of validity to the experience because it means, “This is real.” We are in the balance. We read the literature, we know the maximum doses, the LD-50, and so on. But nevertheless, so great is one’s faith in the mind that when one is out in it one comes to feel that the rules of pharmacology do not really apply and that control of existence on that plane is really a matter of focus of will and good luck.
Ok, this is what truly happened, this was my first time..
I was in a group of 6 people, inside at nighttime. The only light source was a candle
in the centre of the room, and we were all around it. Anthony just had a huge dose,
he did prana breathing with his dose and I was shaking with excitement…
a full body shake that I could not control. Now it was my turn.
‘Gastro’ held the glass bong with the glass pipe attached, he
lit it carefully making sure not to fully vaporise it, he said.“NOW!”
